Love how you wrote him!! Would love to see more of this
Helping Hand | Credence Barebone x Reader
Tumblr media
RATING: Teen | GENRE: Hurt/Comfort | 1,808 words SUMMARY: You offer to help Credence from his situation. [Read on AO3]
The first time you saw the almost painfully pitiful young man named Credence Barebone, it was like looking in a mirror of your past self. You saw it in his downcast eyes and bowed head. You saw it in his frown-marred lips and hunched shoulders. You were once the same as he was. Perhaps the circumstances weren’t exactly the same, but you knew that he was a victim, similar to how you are now a survivor.
Fortunately, you had people who cared about you and managed to help you with your situation, and when you saw that poor young man all meek and vulnerable, you couldn’t bring yourself to turn a blind eye. Even if you didn’t know him personally, you believed that nobody deserved that kind of ill treatment, whatever it was. You couldn’t say for certain what the young man was going through, but you did know that he was in pain. And so, you approached him.

As someone who has not read anything beyond the main seven books, penny for your thoughts on Obscurials?
oh honey. Oh honey. I- I need you to know you came to either the BEST or the WORST person for this; obscurials are my favorite bit of Harry Potter Worldbuilding.
I've seen... the first two FBAWTFT movies, read the actual textbook, and have had so many headcanons. All of this in addition to reading the main seven, watching all eight of the original movies, and reading cursed child. I haven't done anything with the video games, but I also don't think the video games have done anything with Obscurials so who cares.
Alright, let's go. I adore the concept of Obscurials.
You may have noticed their appearances in Not Every Open Wound, Potshot, Not (Our Parents') Children, I feel like I've been on this earth many times before, and Hyacinth, that's because I adore them. Would become their patron saint.
Now, you have to give me a little bit of slack, because I did watch the movies with Credence (I watched them for Credence, let's be honest) and I immediately went 'hmm I liked it better my way'. So.
Obscurials.
An Obscurial is a person who hosts a creature known as an Obscurus. When they appear in fic, and honestly when they appear in canon, there's not a lot of explanation or expansion on what the creature is like. We just see that Newt Scamander pulled one out a girl once and she died about it. Which I think was explained by him doing it after she'd been an obscurial for too long, but I like the idea of it just being permanent. You can't un-obscurialize.
Now, how does someone become an obscurial? By hating their magic. The Woman We All Hate said in an interview once that the only reason Harry did not form/attract an Obscurus is that he didn't know he had magic to hate/blame for his treatment. It's a form of self hatred where they try to rip out an integral part of themselves and in response it turns on them and kills them from the inside out.
It's chronic. It's terminal. Obscurials don't live long. Credence, at 20, was the oldest known obscurial. Longest to survive after forming one.
Most obscurials don't know how to control it! Their magic is broken and they're too scared of themselves, hate it too much, to learn to work with it! It's such an interesting concept! And you can pry magical chronic/terminal illnesses from my cold dead hands. Did you know it's a chronic illness if it's expected to last your whole life and a terminal illness if it's expected to kill you within 2 years?
Honestly you can pry fictional illnesses from my cold dead hands. It's the chronic illness in me. I wanna see rep. I wanna see people being permanently injured and having to learn to live with it and survive even though they'll never be what they were.
Back to obscurials. Another headcanon I have for them is that they were part of why the muggleborn discrimination got so bad - yeah, we'll say the witch hunts were a large part of it, but think about it. Wixen are being hunted. They go into hiding. For reasons unknown, sometimes muggleborns and muggle-raised wixen (ones raised in areas so dangerous that they tried to reject their magic to survive) explode and kill a bunch of people. And no one even knows what an obscurial is, let alone what causes them or how to temper them.
Idk if you've read NEOW yet but the premise of that fic is that Death Eaters purposefully manipulated muggleborns into turning Obscuri to kill muggles en masse, and then Voldemort was defeated, but the obscurials were still around, abandoned by the magical world as a whole.
I just. I get so feral about Obscurials. They don't go to hogwarts. They don't get medical care from St. Mungos. They're barely talked about, they're definitely not given therapy, the wizarding world doesn't even HAVE therapists. They're children who were hurt so viciously that it's physically killing them and no one cares. No one is around to help. They're locked up in basements and hidden away in shame and they're just hurt kids who lash out because they can't help it. Magic is intent and they hate themselves so much that it turned on them and they can't undo that.
It's the best bit of worldbuilding we were ever given, imo, and it's dreadfully underused and was so clearly an aside when it was written.
Obscurials deserve more rights. And hugs. And therapy. They don't live long, they should at least get to live happily.

@inastarlesssky so, I tried to make you a little something about the "Twin theory". I didn't dig Internet (esp. Tumblr), I know there are things here, and other reasons for that theory than the ones I'll post here today. These ones are from a chat I had with a friend, I'm so sorry, I'm too tired to make something better.
Tumblr media
As I said, I do believe in the "twins theory" in which Tina and Credence are twins, mostly because that would explaine the very deep connection she feels for him, and why she puts her job in jeopardy to help him. More than once.
Don't get me wrong. Tina has a very strong moral compass, but she's also a "rule sticker". I do believe she would help any person in difficulty (especially children, or "outcasts") but I'm not sure she would do THAT MUCH.
She broke the Statute of Secrecy for him, while she didn't for Queenie (Jacob is obliviated, and when he remembers she doesn't approve, even if he makes her sister happy). She OC didn't thought about it when she protected him, but... She did it anyway.
Same, she has been reinstated but she does it again in Paris. Whether it was an official mission or not is unclear (posters said "auror on foreign mission" but ITW said she went rogue to go to Paris), but what is certain is that she doesn't follow the order (again) about Credence.
(I also believe that one of the reasons for Queenie to join grindelwald in COG is to protect Credence)
Tumblr media
Then, we have the predictions that I read like that:
A son cruelly banished (Credence)
Despair of the daughter (Queenie)
Return, great avenger
With wings from the water (Tina)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tina has indeed a strong connection to birds : her house in Ilvermorny (Thunderbird), the MACUSA Phoenix, the owls her grand father used to breed when they were children, all the birds iconography we can see in the Goldstein appartment in FBAWTFT.
If Tina and Credence are twins, we could add the phoenix linked to the Dumbledore family (and I also have a theory about a lineage from Isolt Sayre, which would link her to crows too)
(Just to mention but the thunderbird is usually considered to be an equivalent for the phoenix -but not in FBAWTFT book)
Tumblr media
To return to the prediction, Tina is also linked to lot of water symbolism, to begin with Fire in Dark Water.
(and the name Aberforth means "from the river" in gaelic)
In that theory, Tina's given name could be Aster (Esther) and follow the Dumbledores' "A rule".
Tumblr media
And, of course, physically she is closer to Credence and Aberforth than she is to Queenie.
Same for her wand that looks like more Credence's or Aberforth than Queenie's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also believe that in the death pool the "black wave" wasn't supposed to happen, it was supposed to be a "peaceful death" but something went wrong and that wave represents something that haunts Tina, and that could be Credence's obscurus.
I know, it's one that isn't popular anymore, but I still like it.
>>> I do really think Tina is somewhat "dragged" to Credence, which makes me believe in that theory.

Credence Barebone x Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Credence Barebone x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of Past Abuse, Mention of Anxiety Attacks and Panic Attacks, mentions of child neglect, the reader is a Scamander (it’s mentioned)
Summary: Credence has a night terror about his abuse as a child. The Reader is there to comfort him.
Credence rose from his bed swiftly with a cry - sweat clinging to his body, his eyes streaming with tears.
Haunting memories he hoped would fade still linger in his thoughts - the pain, the torture. He could still feel the metal of his own belt against his hands, the lingering feeling that would never go away.
Credence held his hands against the back of his neck as he gathered himself - there was doubt in his mind that he would ever go back to sleep. Until he looked over to his left.
There, rising from a deep slumber, with soft eyes and a gentle touch, was the love of his life.
Y/N was careful with their movements - making sure he was okay with them touching him. Once that was ensured, Y/N wrapped their arms around his shoulders and that seemed to break whatever dam that was holding his tears back. In the arms of his angel, Credence broke down.
There were way too many nights he had spent alone with himself on days like this. He never had anyone to care for him before - he was always alone and he often felt like that is how it was always going to be. The looming thoughts of spending eternity alone in his own head almost sent him off the deep end.
Then he met Y/N.
It wasn’t by accident or anything. Y/N was in New York to start a new life for themselves - they were living with the Goldstein sisters (unofficially) and was working hard to get a job at MACUSA.
Slowly, Credence opened up to them.
And they opened up to him.
Y/N spoke about living in the shadow of their older brother Theseus and how Newt - as kind and loving brother he is - essentially left them alone with their parents. Not that their parents even knew they were there.
As Credence’s violent sobs started to become slow, raspy breaths, Y/N placed a kiss on Credence’s temple and rubbed his shoulders.
And for the first of many times to come, Credence felt safe.

Reasons to renew Fantastic Beasts
The franchise’s future is uncertain, we can only hope for the making of a fourth and a fifth movie. While Fantastic Beasts 3 could end the franchise without the fans being frustrated over the ending, I feel like there’s still so much to see, so much to discover, so much of the story to tell. This post has no ambition of trying to convince WB to give Fantastic Beasts a chance, though I would very like them to do so, this is just something I wanted to do for a while.
You are free to add more to the list!
The summer of 1899
We need to see flashbacks of the summer of 1899. What the HP canon and Dumbledore told us in FB is so little to what actually happened. We need to see Albus and Gellert's first meeting. How they befriended each other because they're two solitary genius sharing the same ideology (more or less) and the same interest for the Hallows. We need to see them falling in love with each other, maybe sharing their first kiss (one can dream) and how it fell apart, how they drifted ways. I need to see Albus feeling trapped and frustrated in his own home until he finally met the one who completed him and understood him the most. I need to see how the Dumbledore siblings had to live on their own, the Dumbledore brothers having to take care of themselves and parent an unstable younger girl, without adults being around. We need to see Aberforth distrusting Gellert and how Albus neglected his family for Gellert. We need to see the three ways duel that resulted in Ariana's death and Gellert's departure
Gellert’s past
We also need to see flashbacks of Albus and Gellert before they met each other. We know next to nothing about Gellert's past. Who was he really? Where did he come from? Did he come from a pureblood family and raised with supremacist ideals? What did his parents think of him getting expelled from school? Mads Mikkelsen believe something happened to Gellert while he was young, or his family. Was it true? If so, were Muggles implied in this, thus explaining his hate for Muggles (it would also be a reason why Albus and he bonded, something tragic happened to them or their family because of Muggles). What were exactly Gellert's experiments so Durmstrang, a school reputed for its practice of dark magic, expelled him? How did he came to learn about the Hallows? Was Nurembarg a family castle or was it something he build for his quest?
Albus’s past
It would also be interesting to see the Dumbledore family before and after Ariana's attack, how it shaped Albus to be the young man he grew up to be when meeting Gellert, how he felt the status of secrecy prevented his family to have justice for what happened to Ariana. How he cared for his sister yet felt him having to take care of her after Kendra's death would mean having to sacrifice his brilliant future. How he came to have that ideology of controlling Muggles for the greater good and breaking the status of secrecy.
The 1945 duel
To see the 1945 in CGI (is that the right word?). The duel lasted three hours, what could possibly happened during that time? What led to that duel? Did Gellert surrender like Rita Skeeter suggested? Why? Was love the reason why Gellert lost the fight? We may get flashbacks during that duel, Albus and Gellert remembering their past together as they fight each other. Could you only imagine the moment where Albus won the Elder Wand? How Albus fought to have Gellert alive and imprisoned, rather than killed? Did they share a goodbye kiss? There are so many possibilities!
Newt and Tina
We know Newt and Tina end up getting married... how did they get there? Would we see the wedding? The long awaited kiss?
Jacob and Queenie
We need to see more of Jacob and Queenie's story. Their story isn't finished just because they got back together and got married. Will Jacob take part in WW2 or will he help during the war against Grindelwald? What about Queenie who betrayed Grindelwald and his followers and left them to join Jacob and Dumbledore's side? Won't Grindelwald and his followers try to get revenge? Not to mention, Queenie may have been able to read Grindelwald's thoughts. As skilled as he is, he must have slipped something from time to time without him noticing, so what could have Queenie possibly seen? Something that may help defeating Grindelwald.
Grindelwald's rise to power.
He may have lost during FB 3, but this isn't over yet. We have yet to see more of his rise to power and his reign of terror. He was the greatest dark wizard until Voldemort, and Voldemort only was active in England, unlike Grindelwald. Also, his defeat in 1945 isn't a coincidence... (I just hope they won't make him a wizard Hitler). The war against Grindelwald was most probably tied to WW2. If so, how?
Dumbledore's plan and tactics to try and stop him.
Now that the blood pact is broken, how will Dumbledore move against him? The blood pact broke in 1927, yet Dumbledore only really defeated Grindelwald much later, in 1945. Maybe there were a sort of chess between the two of them, trying to twart the other without facing each other in a duel.
The other characters
Secondary and tertary characters still have room for development, such as Lally, Yusuf, Theseus, as well as Grindelwald's acolytes. It would be interesting to see a couple of them being more than just acolytes, like Vinda. We might also get other characters introduced, either new characters or characters from the Harry Potter series, such as Bathilda Bagshot (she introduced Gellert and Albus to each other, she’s Gellert’s aunt… what does she think of her nephew now? Have her and Albus stayed in contact?), Hagrid, Slughorn, etc.
Nagini
We need to know what happened to Nagini. She went with Newt and co at the end of FB2. She would be most probably anguished about Credence joining Grindelwald and then dying, and would be angry against Grindelwald and pure-blood wizards whom she saw as the enemy. If so, how come she came to meet and stay with Voldemort as his most faithful companion. Did she pity him because he was an orphan? How come she stayed stuck as a snake?
Tom Riddle
It would be interesting to see Tom Riddle. Maybe in a cameo as he read with fascination the news on Grindelwald's reign of terror, or maybe even reading about the chamber of secrets. The chamber was first opened during Grindelwal's reign. Could you even imagine Dumbledore's state of mind? Him busy with the war against his former lover and Hogwarts, a safe haven for him and his students, being threatened by the opening of the chamber, him suspecting Tom but knowing he has no proof.
The fantastic beasts
To see Teddy the Niffler and Pickett and discover new fantastic beasts, maybe some of them will take an active part in the story, a bigger role, like the Qilin did.
Tina and Queenie
Seeing the sisters having their much needed reunion. Yes, it was important for Jacob and Queenie to find each other, but could you imagine what the sister had been through, away from each other? Tina, the head of the AUROR, knowing her sister joined the enemy, being afraid she lost her sister forever and having another, more personal reason to fight Grindelwald
Tina Golstein
Seeing Tina in action, her having a much active role after having a minor role in FB 3. I've heard she was meant to have a bigger role in FB 3 at first but that it wasn't made possible. Maybe it will be shown in the sequel, should we have one (please yes)
Credence / Aurelius
What happened to Credence? Did he survive? Did he die in Aberforth's arms? Were they able to talk about Credence's mother? To properly say goodbye? Was Credence feeling loved, at least, as he died? What would be the consequences of his death?
Aberforth Dumbledore
With Credence dying and Grindelwald's active role in corrupting his son, Aberforth may take a more active role in the war against Grindelwald. Poor man has lost too much because of Grindelwald. Ariana, Credence, his relationship with Albus never really recovered
The Hallows
We need to have the Hallows being introduced. It was also part of Albus and Gellert's quest. Grindelwald has the Elder Wand, does Dumbledore know it? Is Grindelwald seeking for the stone and the invisibility cloak?
Fawkes
We need to see Fawkes. Was it Credence's phoenix? A gift from Newt? How and when did Albus and Fawkes met and chose each other?
Grindelwald’s followers
What happens to Grindelwald's acolyte after his defeat? Would we have a final battle, much like the battle of Hogwarts? Would we see Newt, Tina, Theseus, Queenie, Minerva, Aberforth and co fighting Grindelwald's followers?
A possible link to the Harry Potter series?
I don't know if it will be told but imagine... FB 5 ending with Newt and co attending Dumbledore's funeral in HP6 and WB MAKING UP TO US BY MAKING GELLERT FACING VOLDEMORT AND REFUSING TO TELL HIM WHERE THE ELDER WAND IS, showing us that even if a new evil rose, there's still hope and that love is the greatest magic ever.
Albus and Gellert
We definitely need more Grindeldore moments, not just because people ship them and hope for a kiss, but because their story is a tragic and fascinating one and there's still so much to say about them. How did they meet, how did they fall apart, did they met each other again between FB 3 and their infamous duel? If so, how? when? what did happen?
The ending
Because Newt, Tina, Jacob, Queenie and co deserve a happy ever after.
